It Might Be Counterintuitive, But This Is What I Teach My Clients In The New Year
It's the first full week back after the holidays and I already feel behind!!!
If I'd follow the advice I'm hearing, I should:
have already reflected on 2018
have a list (or a vision board) created with all the goals for the year
not make those goals too big (that's unrealistic)
also, not make those goals too small (that's unmotivating)
make those goals S.M.A.R.T.
It just feels a bit too prescriptive and forced to me.
I'm not saying I don't love planning and fresh starts.
OH, I DO!
But, as much as I find excitement in those things, the inner toddler in me wants to do it on my own terms. (As my once 4 year old daughter said to me, "You're not the boss of me!")
Maybe you want to control the pace of your own life, too.
With a bit of intention, you can.
Here's what we can do instead of following the masses this January.
First: Make time to PAUSE.
We can't possibly know what goals are best for us, if we don't even have time to breathe.
Second: LISTEN to your inner compass
We all have an innate ability to know what's best for us. The truth is, most of us don't listen.
Third: TAKE ACTION on what you hear
All the lists of goals are great, but they're nothing unless we take action on them.
So, rather than getting caught up in the hype this month...
I encourage you to tune out the external noise.
Listen to what you know is true for you.
Take things in your own time.
You’re not behind.
You’re exactly where YOU are meant to be.
And I’ll be here, ready to meet you... in your own time.
