Feeling Exhausted Don't Know Where To Start?
When life got super busy for me, my default was to buy time by dropping the things that helped me feel my best.
And dropping self care always lead me down a slow, dark spiral of sabotaging thoughts and behaviors.
I knew I could do better, so I created a simple tool that helped me keep the basics of self care top of mind during busy seasons in my life.
And you can use it too!
When you’re busy, and your “plate is full”, I'd like you to PROTECT YOUR P.I.E.
It's a strategy you can use NOW, so that you aren't FREID later.
Here's how it goes:
There are three things that you have control over during a busy day.
PACE
INPUT
ENERGY
The P.I.E. Strategy doesn’t require you to DO anything extra in your day. It is a mental framework that assures you’re taking care of yourself in the heat of the moment.
So how does P.I.E. play out in a typical day?
PACE: You get to decide when you respond to emails, for example. You determine how fast you respond during a conversation. You’re in control of the cadence in a conversation, the cadence of your breath and the pace of your steps. So, while the timing of today's meal may not be in your control, many things are.
INPUT: With all of the screens, phones, bings and beeps, we live in a world of distractions. Input refers to things we see, hear, smell and feel. Be aware of your lighting. Check the notifications on your phone and computer. Notice other sounds and movement around you. Manage accordingly.
ENERGY: Everything we do either increases or decreases our energy. Ideally, we should have equal amounts of activities that fill us and drain us. Your calendar won’t be naturally balanced with these activities. If the world had its way, you’d be sucked dry. I believe it’s your job to manage your own energy. Then, when you choose to do something, you’re bringing your best self.
And, if you'd like to actively protect your energy this season, I've created an Energy Audit Framework.
