Stop voting against yourself

First Tuesday in November and I’m exhausted.

The ads, the division, the rhetoric.

I get it. It’s important to vote. And I will. You should, too.

But I’m going to guess you’re in the habit of voting for everything and everyone but yourself.

On this Election Day, it’s important to know that you’ve already been placing your vote. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Here’s what I mean.

You vote AGAINST YOURSELF each time:

  • You say “Yes” to volunteering when your gut says “Oh please, God. I don’t have time for this…”

  • You adjust your daily schedule of tasks to accommodate your boss’s immediate worry.

  • You go the extra distance, even though “just enough” would be fine.

  • You decide not to share your opinion because it might make someone uncomfortable.

  • You say “I’ll eat anywhere. I’m flexible.” when you’re really craving Mexican food.

  • You push your bedtime back, even though you’re totally beat, because your partner really wants to watch that Netflix show with you.

To clarify… NONE of these things are inherently bad.

These choices are kind, benevolent, selfless, accommodating things to do.

I wouldn’t blame you if you ask, “What’s wrong with being flexible and low maintenance, Lisa?”

Nothing. Nothing at all. As long as you know what you’re doing and who you’re voting for.

Because by habitually saying yes to everyone else, you risk dying by a thousand paper cuts.

So, on this Election Day, I’d like for you to experiment.

With every decision, with every action… Ask yourself…

“WHO am I voting for?”

“Is this decision a vote FOR ME?”

Over the course of the day, you’d ideally like to see as many votes FOR YOU as votes for others.

Tally up your votes.

And let me know your results.

I’m genuinely curious about this.

Let’s give our minds something else to focus on today.

On this election day, I want YOU to vote for yourself!

Reply and let me know your results.

You’ve got MY vote,

Lisa

P.S. If you do feel as though you’re dying from a thousand paper cuts, there’s triage available. Oftentimes, during the first 7 to 10 days of working together, my clients and I are triaging and putting bandages on gaping wounds in their schedules, calendars and lives.

P.P.S. Then, typically within two weeks, space opens up, energy increases and my clients feel a sense of clarity and calm that they’ve never experienced before… (outside of a two week vacation.)

P.P.P.S. If you crave that same level of peace and contentment, during this notoriously crazy season, let’s talk about what the Time/Energy Optimization Program can do for you. I’d love to see you vote for yourself more often than not.
